It shows three determined Spanish soldiers in summer uniform.\u003cbr\u003e\nNote this is not the smaller pictures from ration books, but a larger poster.\u003cbr\u003e\nDimensions: 16.5 in x 11.8 in (42 cm x 30 cm)\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Blue Division was a unit of volunteers from Francoist Spain within the German Army on the Eastern Front during World War II. It was officially designated the Spanish Volunteer Division by the Spanish Army and 250th Infantry Division by the Germans.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSpain was ruled by an authoritarian regime under Francisco Franco installed in the Spanish Civil War (1936–39) with support from Nazi Germany. Franco chose to remain neutral in World War II but sympathised with the Axis powers. After lobbying by the Spanish Army, Franco agreed that Spanish people would be permitted to enlist privately in the German Army. An infantry division was raised from Falangist and Army cadres and was sent for training in Germany. The unit fought on the Eastern Front and notably participated in the siege of Leningrad, but was withdrawn from the Front after Spanish pressure in October 1943 and was returned to Spain soon afterwards. The Blue Division was not fully withdrawn from the Eastern Front until 21 March 1944. Several thousand non-returners were incorporated into the short-lived Blue Legion and eventually into the Waffen-SS.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBecause of the age of these posters, there are areas of wear and tear, particularly on the edges. I have done my best to take photos where they are torn or stained. The good news is that when framed, the tears press up well against glass, and edges can be hidden by mats.
