There’s nothing more thrilling than seeing St. Moritz’s closest mountain, Corviglia, covered in radiant white powder snow. Corviglia is not only the birthplace of Alpine winter sports, it is also responsible for the start of winter tourism over 150 years ago. St. Moritz is one of the best winter sports regions in the world, so it’s no surprise that it has already hosted two Winter Olympic Games and five Alpine Ski World Championships.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt is Upper Engadine's major town and a municipality in the district of Maloja in the Swiss canton of Graubünden. St. Moritz lies on the southern slopes of the Albula Alps below the Piz Nair (3,056 m or 10,026 ft) overlooking the flat and wide glaciated valley of the Upper Engadine and eponymous lake: Lake St. Moritz. It hosted the Winter Olympics in 1928 and 1948.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eCorviglia is a location on the eastern slopes of Piz Nair, overlooking St. Moritz in the canton of Graubünden. It lies on the watershed between the rivers Schlattain (Val Saluver) and the Ovel da la Resgia (ending in Lake St. Moritz), at an elevation of 2,486 m (8,156 ft). Corviglia is mainly accessible from the town by the St. Moritz–Corviglia funicular, via Chantarella. At Corviglia, an aerial tramway climbs west to Piz Nair (3,057 m (10,030 ft)), unloading slightly below its summit.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eCorviglia is also the name of the ski area directly above St. Moritz. This area, together with the fully integrated Marguns area which is centered above the neighboring town of Celerina, is the largest skiing area in the Engadin.
