Annette was his favourite model who became his wife.
Dimensions: 31.5 in x 16.5 in (78 cm x 42 cm)
Condition: some light marks to the left of the head, some over exposed photos, see photos

In 1954, Giacometti delivered several painted and sculpted portraits of his wife, very precisely depicted and unusually realistic, this being one of them. Annette’s delicate anatomy is perfectly readable and her face as well as her hair easily identifiable. The work was exhibited for the first time in bronze at the Venice Biennale in 1962, with the title “Annette dal vero” (“Annette from life”). The whole figure stands out with the sharpness of a drawing in space. The lines that go over the figure evoke the brush touches of the paintings representing Annette standing naked in the studio in that same year. The piece was cast in bronze by the artist from 1954.

Alberto Giacometti was a Swiss sculptor, painter, draftsman and printmaker. Beginning in 1922, he lived and worked mainly in Paris but regularly visited his hometown Borgonovo to see his family and work on his art. His work was particularly influenced by artistic styles such as Cubism and Surrealism. Philosophical questions about the human condition, as well as existential and phenomenological debates played a significant role in his work.

What is special about exhibition and gallery posters is that they are an affordable way of getting good, unique art on the walls, as although it is not an artists original, neither is it something that has been mass reproduced.

Because of the age of these posters, there are areas of wear and tear, particularly on the edges. I have done my best to take photos where they are torn. The good news is that when framed, the tears press up well against glass, and edges can be hidden by mats. Any wear picked up from years are part of the charm.

These posters are sent as unframed. They are delivered in a cardboard tube for protection.

See the FAQ for more information on shipping, tracking and insurance options.
