Arcadia is the name of a region in Greece, but also the mythological home of the god Pan and the nymphs. The woman depicted in this painting is Picasso’s first wife, Olga Khokhlova. At the time it was made, she has just given birth to the artist’s first son, Paul. Her white tunic recalls ancient Greece, as does the urn that pours forth its life-giving water into the landscape. Among his most famous works are the proto-Cubist Les Demoiselles d'Avignon (1907), and Guernica (1937), a dramatic portrayal of the bombing of Guernica by German and Italian air forces during the Spanish Civil War.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhat is special about exhibition and gallery posters is that they are an affordable way of getting good, unique art on the walls, as although it is not an artists original, neither is it something that has been mass reproduced.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBecause of the age of these posters, there are areas of wear and tear, particularly on the edges. I have done my best to take photos where they are torn. The good news is that when framed, the tears press up well against glass, and edges can be hidden by mats.
