The name was coined in 1948 by Christian Dotremont from the initials of the members' home countries' capital cities: Copenhagen (Co), Brussels (Br), Amsterdam (A).
Dimensions: 30 in x 20 in (76 cm x 51 cm)

Karel Appel was a co-founder of the avant-garde CoBrA movement (Copenhagen, Brussels, Amsterdam). Appel rejected traditional European academic art in favor of raw expressionism, folk art, and the uninhibited creativity of children's drawings.

Appel was deeply affected by the sight of hungry, displaced refugee children begging alongside train tracks in post-WWII Germany. He recreated their hands-up poses using discarded scrap wood found around Amsterdam. When he painted a large mural version of this in 1949 for the Amsterdam City Hall canteen, city workers complained so fiercely that municipal authorities covered it behind wallpaper for ten years.

What is special about exhibition and gallery posters is that they are an affordable way of getting good, unique art on the walls, as although it is not an artists original, neither is it something that has been mass reproduced.

Because of the age of these posters, there are areas of wear and tear, particularly on the edges. I have done my best to take photos where they are torn. The good news is that when framed, the tears press up well against glass, and edges can be hidden by mats. Any wear picked up from years are part of the charm.

These posters are sent as unframed. They are delivered in a cardboard tube for protection.

See the FAQ for more information on shipping, tracking and insurance options.

https://lampposted.com/products/1997-corneille-poster-serpent-sun-yellow-nude-cobra-group-reflex-movement-guillaume-beverloo-artist-gallery-exhibition-wall-art-decor-copy
