Escape Artist, The Greated Necromancer of all Time, The Literary Digest, wall art

Buried Alive! This poster features Harry Houdini seeking to escape from a sarcophogas in Egypt. Houdini appears as a mist escaping from the heavy trunk. Probably from 1990s 2000s.
Note damage to bottom left and pin holes.
Dimensions: 35.8 in x 24 in (91 cm x 61 cm)

Harry Houdini was a Hungarian-born American illusionist, stunt performer and mysteriarch, noted for his escape acts.

He first attracted notice in vaudeville in the United States and then as "Harry 'Handcuff' Houdini" on a tour of Europe, where he challenged police forces to keep him locked up. Soon he extended his repertoire to include chains, ropes slung from skyscrapers, straitjackets under water, and having to escape from and hold his breath inside a sealed milk can with water in it.

In 1904, thousands watched as he tried to escape from special handcuffs commissioned by London's Daily Mirror, keeping them in suspense for an hour. Another stunt saw him buried alive and only just able to claw himself to the surface, emerging in a state of near-breakdown. While many suspected that these escapes were faked, Houdini presented himself as the scourge of fake spiritualists. As President of the Society of American Magicians, he was keen to uphold professional standards and expose fraudulent artists. He was also quick to sue anyone who imitated his escape stunts.

Because of the age of these posters and their history, there are areas of wear and tear, particularly on the edges. I have done my best to take photos where they are torn or stained. The posters are traditionally folded up and with their age are creased. The good news is that when framed, the creases and tears press up well against glass, and any rough edges can be hidden by mats. Any wear picked up from years are part of the vintage charm.

These posters are sent as unframed. They will be delivered in a cardboard tube for protection.

See the FAQ for more information on shipping, tracking and insurance options.
