This is an original but well worn 1962 travel poster of the Bayeux Tapestry. It shows a mounted Norman knight with a kite shield striking a Saxon axeman with an oval shield with his sword. The strap line suggests it's the tapestry from the age of Queen Matilda.
The aging is very apparent, but only adds to the authenticity and ought to frame up very well. It's good wear!

The Bayeux Tapestry is an embroidered cloth nearly 70 metres (230 feet) long and 50 centimetres (20 inches) tall that depicts the events leading up to the Norman Conquest of England in 1066, led by William, Duke of Normandy challenging Harold II, King of England, and culminating in the Battle of Hastings. It is thought to date to the 11th century, within a few years of the battle. Now widely accepted to have been made in England, perhaps as a gift for William, it tells the story from the point of view of the conquering Normans and for centuries has been preserved in Normandy.
The cloth consists of 58 scenes, many with Latin tituli, embroidered on linen with coloured woollen yarns. It is likely that it was commissioned by Bishop Odo of Bayeux, William's maternal half-brother, and made for him in England in the 1070s. In 1729, the hanging was rediscovered by scholars at a time when it was being displayed annually in Bayeux Cathedral. The tapestry is now exhibited at the Musée de la Tapisserie de Bayeux in Bayeux, Normandy, France. The designs on the Bayeux Tapestry are embroidered rather than in a tapestry weave, so it does not meet narrower definitions of a tapestry. Nevertheless, it has always been referred to as a tapestry until recent years when the name "Bayeux Embroidery" has gained ground among certain art historians. It can be seen as a rare example of secular Romanesque art.
Because of the age of these posters, there are areas of wear and tear, particularly on the edges. I have done my best to take photos where they are torn or stained. The good news is that when framed, the tears press up well against glass, and edges can be hidden by mats. Any wear picked up from years are part of the vintage charm.
When framed these colourful and detailed posters, with vibrant colours can become a centre piece for any room, to remind us of a simpler time.
These posters are sent as unframed. They will be delivered in a cardboard tube for protection.

I share your delivery information with a third party delivery service who only use it to deliver your item. They will not contact you unless there is a problem delivering your order.
All poster deliveries use Royal Mail if possible. Some very large posters or charts may require use of a different delivery company.
Items are sent tracked and insured.
Local deliveries are sent Royal Mail 24 Tracked by default, you can upgrade to Special Delivery. Most parcels arrive within the expected timescale, but Royal Mail no longer guarantees delivery to previously set timescales.
International deliveries are sent Royal Mail International Tracked by default, you can upgrade to UPS which usually takes less than a week. The estimate of 3-7 days does not include time spent within the customs service of which delivery companies have not control.

If a poster has been stored folded, it will be sent folded in a cardboard-backed envelope.
If a poster has been stored rolled, it will be sent rolled in a cardboard tube.
If appropriate, posters will be wrapped with tissue paper.
All packaging is sent wrapped with "fragile" tape.
I reuse tubes and envelopes in order to try to minimise packaging.
If you have requested gift wrapping, please indicate what sort of gift it is and I will try to use accommodating paper.
If you'd like a card with a handwritten note, please include a message.
If you would not like the receipt included inside (there is no price information on it) please indicate.
The customer may cancel for any reason 14 calendar days from the point that they receive the item. Please use Etsy Conversations to get in contact if you wish to do this.
For cancellations I will refund the order value including shipping, within 14 days of cancellation where goods have not yet been despatched, within 14 days of us receiving returned goods, or 14 days of giving us evidence of sending back. Refunds will be made using the original payment method.
Returns of cancelled items are to be arranged by the customer and are at customer cost. Returns are at customer risk and customers are recommended to ensure adequate packing and insurance for loss or damage in transit. A service with proof of posting and proof of delivery should be used.
For international returns from outside the UK please mark the parcel "RETURNED GOODS". You will need to attach a completed CN22 or CN23 form . We cannot refund import duties or taxes paid by you for receipt of the goods into your country, you will need to do that yourself, please keep copies of all paperwork and proof of posting of returned goods to support your application for refunds of import duties and taxes.
You can use a cancellation form to cancel if you wish, but just a request on Etsy Conversations is preferable.
