1066 Guinness Poster, 1966 Original, Bayeux Tapestry theme, Norman Invasion of Britain, Beer advertising campaign, retro wall art decor
This is an outstanding and rare Guinness poster concept by Stanley Penn 1966 celebrating the 900 year anniversary of the Battle of Hastings, the successful Norman invasion of Britain. The Guinness version of the tapestry shows a scene from the style of the famous Bayeux Tapestry, a mounted Norman knight in chain mail, handing a pint of Guinness to a second Norman knight wielding a cudgel.
The poster has retained its deep rich colour over 50 years and it is in fabulous condition.
The text on the poster reads, "Battle of Hastings 1066, Bottle of Guinness 1966".
Dimensions: 30 in x 20 in (76 cm x 51 cm)
The Bayeux Tapestry is an embroidered cloth nearly 70 metres (230 ft) long and 50 centimetres (20 in) tall that depicts the events leading up to the Norman conquest of England concerning William, Duke of Normandy, and Harold, Earl of Wessex, later King of England, and culminating in the Battle of Hastings. It is thought to date to the 11th century, within a few years after the battle. It tells the story from the point of view of the conquering Normans but is now agreed to have been made in England.
The Battle of Hastings was fought on 14 October 1066 between the Norman-French army of William, the Duke of Normandy, and an English army under the Anglo-Saxon King Harold Godwinson, beginning the Norman conquest of England. It took place near Hastings, close to the present-day town of Battle, East Sussex, and was a decisive Norman victory.
Because of the age of these posters, there are areas of wear and tear, particularly on the edges. I have done my best to take photos where they are torn or stained. The good news is that when framed, the tears press up well against glass, and edges can be hidden by mats. Any wear picked up from years are part of the vintage charm.
When framed these colourful and detailed posters, with vibrant colours can become a centre piece for any room, to remind us of a simpler time.
These posters are sent as unframed. They will be delivered in a cardboard backed envelope for protection.
