1953 Paul Gauguin Poster, "The Beautiful Angel" from Pont Avon, amazing wear, French post-impressionism painter, wall art decor

This is a 1953 poster of Paul Gauguin's "La Belle Angèle" and his painting from his series from Pont Aven in Britanny. This poster has some amazing wear from damage that betrays its age, and would look outstandingly when framed. There are few posters that have aged so authentically. From 1953, it celebrates the 50th year of the anniversary of his death.

The Beautiful Angel (La Belle Angèle) is an 1889 painting by Paul Gauguin, now in the Musée d'Orsay in Paris. Its title derives from a nickname for its subject, Angélique Marie Satre (1868-1932) - she was one of three famous innkeepers in Pont-Aven, where the work was produced. Its style is heavily influenced by the 'Japonism' then fashionable in Paris, particularly by a canvas by Hokusai.

Paul Gauguin was a French Post-Impressionist artist. Unappreciated until after his death, Gauguin is now recognized for his experimental use of color and Synthetist style that were distinct from Impressionism. His work was influential on the French avant-garde and many modern artists, such as Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse, and he is well known for his relationship with Vincent and Theo van Gogh.

Gauguin was an important figure in the Symbolist movement as a painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramist, and writer. His expression of the inherent meaning of the subjects in his paintings, under the influence of the cloisonnist style, paved the way for Primitivism and the return to the pastoral. He was also an influential proponent of wood engraving and woodcuts as art forms.

What is special about exhibition and gallery posters is that they are an affordable way of getting good, unique art on the walls, as although it is not an artists original, neither is it something that has been mass reproduced.

Because of the age of these posters and their history, there are areas of wear and tear, particularly on the edges. I have done my best to take photos where they are torn or stained. The posters are traditionally folded up and with their age are creased. The good news is that when framed, the creases and tears press up well against glass, and any rough edges can be hidden by mats. Any wear picked up from years are part of the vintage charm.

These posters are sent as unframed. They will be delivered in a cardboard tube for protection.
