An original 1962 Air France travel poster promoting Italy through the sights and atmosphere of Venice. A masked carnival musician plays a yellow mandolin, wearing a dramatic costume in red, green and black. Behind him, a gondolier crosses the blue water beneath the distinctive bell tower of St Mark’s.
Designed by Guy Georget and printed in Paris by Bedos & Cie, the poster combines bold colour with angular shapes and textured details.
From an old travel agency collection, stored flat from new.

Guy Georget (1911–1997) was a French graphic designer, illustrator and poster artist. His travel posters used bright colours and simplified shapes to make a destination immediately recognisable. Here, the angular costume, sweeping mandolin and white outlines give the musician the appearance of a paper collage, while the gondola and bell tower establish Venice. Georget also designed the arrow-shaped postal bird introduced by France’s postal service in 1960.

Air France is the flag carrier of France headquartered in Tremblay-en-France. Air France was formed on 7 October 1933 from a merger of Air Orient, Air Union, Compagnie Générale Aéropostale, Compagnie Internationale de Navigation Aérienne (CIDNA), and Société Générale de Transport Aérien (SGTA).

Because of the age of these posters, there are areas of wear and tear, particularly on the edges. I have done my best to take photos where they are torn or stained. The good news is that when framed, the tears press up well against glass, and edges can be hidden by mats. Any wear picked up from years are part of the vintage charm.

When framed these colourful and detailed posters, with vibrant colours can become a centre piece for any room, to remind us of a simpler time.

These posters are sent as unframed. They will be delivered in a cardboard tube for protection.
