This is an original poster for a French vintage car rally. It is advertising the "1er Rallye International des Cathédrales - Bourges 1965" or "1st International Cathedral Rally - Bourges 1965 held towards Bourges from all over Europe - Paris, Oslo, Rome, Stockholm, Berne, Peterborough, Copenhagen, Utrecht, Brussels, Luxembourg, Mayence, Vienna, Madrid, Lisbon and London.

The first international cathedral rally took place in June 1965. 4 cathedrals were chosen to host the departures. Created in 1965, at the time of the great road marathons such as the Tour de France auto or the Liège-Rome-Liège, by the automobile club du Center, the participants in the international rally of the cathedrals traveled the roads of Europe, to point out their passage in the chosen cities by a telegram sent to Bourges. The further away the cathedrals were from Bourges, the more important the points obtained were! Some drove day and night, without speed limits, to certain cathedrals in Lithuania, Scotland or Portugal, before returning to Bourges after four days. In 1973, the current oil crisis reduced the number of participants, forcing the organizer to stop this rally.
Because of the age of these posters, there are areas of wear and tear, particularly on the edges. I have done my best to take photos where they are torn or stained. The good news is that when framed, the tears press up well against glass, and edges can be hidden by mats. Any wear picked up from years are part of the vintage charm.
These posters will be delivered in a cardboard tube for protection.
