This is a 1970s Athena reprint of Henri Thiriet's famous poster of the bustling cafe in Paris. distracted by the sight of a barely lifted skirt to the ankle, the protagonist pours his Absinthe Berthelot over the saucer instead of the glass while his friend steals the drink unnoticed!

Henri Thiriet was a prolific French poster artist, book illustrator and painter. Although responsible for many memorable posters, almost nothing is known about Thiriet's life and career. He painted in a flamboyant Art Nouveau style, using its characteristic curves and swirls, and a colourful palette to create imagery bearing his clear stamp.
Because of the age of these posters, there are areas of wear and tear, particularly on the edges. I have done my best to take photos where they are torn or stained. The good news is that when framed, the tears press up well against glass, and edges can be hidden by mats. Any wear picked up from years are part of the vintage charm. Note: This poster has damage at the top right corner.

These posters will be delivered in a cardboard tube for protection.
