A colourful Pace/Columbus gallery poster featuring a sweeping blue crescent, a red-and-green circular form, bold black shapes and loose, scribbled lines. The open white background gives it a lighter, more spacious appearance than your earlier black-dominated Pace poster.
The image reproduces Dormir sous la lune — Sleeping Under the Moon, 1969. Miró’s original work was an etching and aquatint with additional printmaking techniques, rather than a painting.
Printing method: colour offset lithography on paper
Dimensions: 23 in x 29 in (58 cm x 74 cm)
Joan Miró (1893–1983) was a Catalan painter, sculptor and printmaker associated with Surrealism. He developed a personal language of stars, birds, figures and floating shapes, combining bold colours with delicate lines. Here, the crescent and scattered symbols suggest an imaginary night sky, while leaving plenty of room for the viewer’s interpretation.
What is special about exhibition and gallery posters is that they are an affordable way of getting good, unique art on the walls, as although it is not an artists original, neither is it something that has been mass reproduced.
Because of the age of these posters, there are areas of wear and tear, particularly on the edges. I have done my best to take photos where they are torn. The good news is that when framed, the tears press up well against glass, and edges can be hidden by mats. Any wear picked up from years are part of the charm.
These posters are sent as unframed. They are delivered in a cardboard tube for protection.
