1974 Lancelot Poster, Luc Simon handsigned with original drawings, King Arthur, Arthurian legend, artist gallery exhibition, wall art decor

This original exhibition poster is from an exhibition in Aachen in 1974 featuring "Lancelot du Lac" or "Lancelot of the Lake". Luc Simon was both an artist and actor who also performed as the leading role Lancelot in Robert Bresson's 1974 epic "Lancelot du Lac".
Luc Simon has hand signed the poster, and given a tribute to his friend Norbert, including a hand-drawn depiction illusion of a bird with a human face looking the other way.
The blue and green aquarelle watercolours show perfectly Lancelot's watery origins with the Lady of the Lake. Lancelot's heart is a prominent feature of the painting, only that and a single tear depart from the chilly blues and greens.

Lancelot du Lac is a character in some versions of Arthurian legend, where he is typically depicted as King Arthur's close companion and one of the greatest Knights of the Round Table. In the French-inspired Arthurian chivalric romance tradition, Lancelot is the orphaned son of King Ban of the lost Kingdom of Benwick, raised in the fairy realm by the Lady of the Lake. A hero of many battles, quests and tournaments, and famed as a nearly unrivalled swordsman and jouster, Lancelot becomes the lord of the castle Joyous Gard and personal champion of Arthur's wife Queen Guinevere. But when his adulterous affair with Guinevere is discovered, it causes a civil war that is exploited by Mordred to end Arthur's kingdom.

Luc Simon is a painter, actor and lithographer, the son of Jacques Simon, himself a descendant of a family of glass masters from Reims Cathedral for centuries. He had two sisters, Brigitte and Simone, one a painter and the other a designer and sculptor.
As an actor, he played the title role in the film Lancelot du Lac by Robert Bresson in 1974.

What is special about exhibition and gallery posters is that they are an affordable way of getting good, unique art on the walls, as although it is not an artists original, neither is it something that has been mass reproduced.

Because of the age of these posters, there are areas of wear and tear, particularly on the edges. I have done my best to take photos where they are torn. The good news is that when framed, the tears press up well against glass, and edges can be hidden by mats. Any wear picked up from years are part of the charm.

These posters are sent as unframed. They are delivered in a cardboard tube for protection.
