A colourful 1986 exhibition poster featuring Joan Miró’s distinctive abstract imagery. Sweeping black lines, an orange eye-like shape and a broad red outline sit among splashes of green, yellow and violet. A reflective silver-coloured border gives the poster an especially striking finish.

Printing method: colour offset lithography on paper, with a silver-coloured border.

Joan Miró (1893–1983) was a Catalan painter, sculptor and printmaker born in Barcelona. He developed a distinctive visual language of bold colours, wandering lines and shapes suggesting birds, people, eyes and stars. His work was closely associated with Surrealism, while remaining very much his own. This poster shows that playful approach particularly well, with its bird-like forms and almost musical black marks.

What is special about exhibition and gallery posters is that they are an affordable way of getting good, unique art on the walls, as although it is not an artists original, neither is it something that has been mass reproduced.

Because of the age of these posters, there are areas of wear and tear, particularly on the edges. I have done my best to take photos where they are torn. The good news is that when framed, the tears press up well against glass, and edges can be hidden by mats. Any wear picked up from years are part of the charm.

These posters are sent as unframed. They are delivered in a cardboard tube for protection.
