This Alexej von Jawlensky exhibition poster is from the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris for the 1987 exhibition featuring "Aube" or "Dawn from 1928. The image is of the "Sportsmen" who were painted from 1928-1930.

Alexej von Jawlensky was a Russian painter who co-founded the Blue Rider expressionist group alongside Wassily Kandinsky. Aube (Dawn) comes from his 1920s "Abstract Heads" series, where he took the basic layout of a human face and stripped it down to geometric arches, sharp lines, and soft color gradients. Influenced by traditional Russian religious icons, he spent years painting hundreds of these face-like grids using the exact same basic structure to experiment purely with color and shape.
What is special about exhibition and gallery posters is that they are an affordable way of getting good, unique art on the walls, as although it is not an artists original, neither is it something that has been mass reproduced.
Because of the age of these posters, there are areas of wear and tear, particularly on the edges. I have done my best to take photos where they are torn. The good news is that when framed, the tears press up well against glass, and edges can be hidden by mats. Any wear picked up from years are part of the charm.
These posters are sent as unframed. They are delivered in a cardboard tube for protection.
