This original Edvard Munch exhibition poster is from the Aarhus KunstMuseum in Denmark, for a 1991 exhibition featuring "The Night Wanderer" from 1923 / 1924. The exhibition is about melancholy.

In a self-portrait, The Night Wanderer, the artist paints himself as an insomniac figure wandering around a darkened house. From the portrait, a viewer can identify the house's windows boarded by some wood. Edvard is dressed in a black coat and a seemingly white shirt. His face looks a little blurred, and the eyes seem darkened. Looking further into the portrait, one can only know it's a person by the facial and hands blur. The rooms behind seem illuminated, but his eyes appear dark and deep. They are not identifiable in the portrait. In the portrait, the artist hid his hands in his pocket or behind his back, and he seems to lean forward as if checking for something from the entrance of the room. The portrait also shows no time or place.

Edvard Munch was a Norwegian painter. His best known work, The Scream, has become one of the iconic images of world art. Studying at the Royal School of Art and Design in Kristiania (today's Oslo), Munch began to live a bohemian life under the influence of the nihilist Hans Jæger, who urged him to paint his own emotional and psychological state ('soul painting'). From this emerged his distinctive style.

What is special about exhibition and gallery posters is that they are an affordable way of getting good, unique art on the walls, as although it is not an artists original, neither is it something that has been mass reproduced.

Because of the age of these posters, there are areas of wear and tear, particularly on the edges. I have done my best to take photos where they are torn. The good news is that when framed, the tears press up well against glass, and edges can be hidden by mats. Any wear picked up from years are part of the charm.

These posters are sent as unframed. They are delivered in a cardboard tube for protection.
