Original 1993 Joan Miró centenary exhibition poster from the Fundació Joan Miró, Barcelona. It reproduces Head of a Man, a striking 1937 work featuring a large circular eye, jagged teeth and a sweeping white outline against a dark, richly coloured background. The vivid red border gives this unusual Surrealist portrait a strong presence.
Printed in Holland
Dimensions: 33 in x 23.5 in (84 cm x 60 cm)
Condition: light surface marks and scuffs, a few small scratches to the red lower margin, and minor edge and corner wear. See photos for detail.
Joan Miró (1893–1983) was a Catalan painter, sculptor and printmaker born in Barcelona. Associated with Surrealism, he developed a distinctive language of imaginary creatures, simplified shapes and expressive colour. This fierce-looking head shows the darker side of his work. It dates from the Spanish Civil War, a period when political upheaval and exile accompanied increasingly troubled imagery in his art.
What is special about exhibition and gallery posters is that they are an affordable way of getting good, unique art on the walls, as although it is not an artists original, neither is it something that has been mass reproduced.
Because of the age of these posters, there are areas of wear and tear, particularly on the edges. I have done my best to take photos where they are torn. The good news is that when framed, the tears press up well against glass, and edges can be hidden by mats. Any wear picked up from years are part of the charm.
These posters are sent as unframed. They are delivered in a cardboard tube for protection.
