A colourful reproduction of Picasso’s Les Pigeons (The Pigeons), 1957, showing white pigeons in their nesting boxes beside a view of palm trees and the Mediterranean. Strong black brushstrokes contrast with sunny yellow, orange, blue and lilac.
The painting belongs to a group of nine pigeon pictures Picasso made at La Californie, his home and studio in Cannes, while taking a break from his reinterpretations of Velázquez’s Las Meninas. The birds and coastal view came from his own surroundings.
Dimensions: 31.5 in x 23.5 in (80 cm x 60 cm)
Pablo Picasso (1881–1973) was a Spanish artist whose experiments with painting, sculpture and printmaking helped shape modern art. He developed Cubism with Georges Braque, but continually explored other approaches. These pigeon paintings show a more domestic side of his work: birds were a subject his artist father had painted, and Picasso himself had drawn them since childhood.
What is special about exhibition and gallery posters is that they are an affordable way of getting good, unique art on the walls, as although it is not an artists original, neither is it something that has been mass reproduced.
Because of the age of these posters, there are areas of wear and tear, particularly on the edges. I have done my best to take photos where they are torn. The good news is that when framed, the tears press up well against glass, and edges can be hidden by mats. Any wear picked up from years are part of the charm.
These posters are sent as unframed. They are delivered in a cardboard tube for protection.
