This poster is from from a 1999 collection of Tolkien posters from John Howe who is one of the leading artists in Tolkien artwork. This scene shows Gandalf striding down a path, probably in the Shire to check in on Frodo and the One Ring.
Gandalf the Grey, later known as Gandalf the White, was an Istar (Wizard), dispatched to Middle-earth in the Third Age to combat the threat of Sauron. He joined Thorin and his company to reclaim the Lonely Mountain from Smaug, convoked the Fellowship of the Ring to destroy the One Ring, and led the Free Peoples in the final campaign of the War of the Ring.

John Howe is best-known for his artwork of J. R. R. Tolkien's Middle-earth. Howe illustrated the Lord of the Rings board game created by Reiner Knizia, and re-illustrated the maps of The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, and The Silmarillion in 1996–2003.
