2000 Claude Cahun Poster, Inverted Odysseys, Self Portrait 1932, Lucy Schwab, Surrealism, Photography, gallery exhibition, wall art decor

This Claude Cahun poster is from the 2000 exhibition in Grey Art Gallery at NY University, and the Museum of Contemperory Art in Miami. It shows a self portrait of Claude Cahun curled up in a display cabinet from 1932. A colourful character which many photographers would go on to follow.
Dimensions: 35 in x 17 in (89 cm x 43 cm)

Claude Cahun was a French surrealist photographer, sculptor, and writer. Born Lucy Schwob, she adopted the pseudonym Claude Cahun in 1914. Cahun is best known as a writer and self-portraitist, who assumed a variety of performative personae.

In her writing she consistently referred to herself as "elle" (she), and this article follows her practice; but she also said that her actual gender was fluid. For example, in Disavowals, Cahun writes: "Masculine? Feminine? It depends on the situation. Neuter is the only gender that always suits me."

What is special about exhibition and gallery posters is that they are an affordable way of getting good, unique art on the walls, as although it is not an artists original, neither is it something that has been mass reproduced.

Because of the age of these posters, there are areas of wear and tear, particularly on the edges. I have done my best to take photos where they are torn. The good news is that when framed, the tears press up well against glass, and edges can be hidden by mats. Any wear picked up from years are part of the charm.

These posters are sent as unframed. They are delivered in a cardboard tube for protection.
