This exhibition poster is from the Tate Britain in London for an exhibition in 2005 "The Creation of Celebrity" featuring "Portrait of Omai" from Sir Joshua Reynolds in 1776.

In Reynolds' Portrait of Omai, Mai is depicted in a version of ceremonial Tahitian dress: a form of dress that Mai may have in some ways aspired to because it was associated with Tahitian nobility and the priestly classes.
Sir Joshua Reynolds was an English painter who specialised in portraits. Art critic John Russell called him one of the major European painters of the 18th century[1] while Lucy Peltz says he was "the leading portrait artist of the 18th-century and arguably one of the greatest artists in the history of art." He promoted the "Grand Style" in painting, which depended on idealisation of the imperfect. He was a founder and first president of the Royal Academy of Arts and was knighted by George III in 1769.
What is special about exhibition and gallery posters is that they are an affordable way of getting good, unique art on the walls, as although it is not an artists original, neither is it something that has been mass reproduced.
Because of the age of these posters, there are areas of wear and tear, particularly on the edges. I have done my best to take photos where they are torn. The good news is that when framed, the tears press up well against glass, and edges can be hidden by mats. Any wear picked up from years are part of the charm.
These posters are sent as unframed. They are delivered in a cardboard-backed envelope for protection. They have been stored folded.
