This is a Guinness poster featuring the brand's beloved toucans by Raymond Tooby from 1957, showing a toucan's nest with two Guinnesses in it. Note the television aerial which was still an novelty in 1957. The Toucan's take to Television.

This has been printed on good quality paper and was probably part of historical marketing material from Guinness to promote the sale of calendars in the 1990s.

Tom studied commercial art at Salford School of Art. During the 1930's he was amongst the foremost poster artists of the period, producing much work for Shell-Mex and London Transport. His relationship with London Transport lasted over 50 years. During WW2 he drew maps for the RAF and after the war continued to design posters, in 1954 he joined the teaching staff at the London College of Printing, later to become Head of Department. He helped to establish the first undergraduate courses in graphic design in Britain. Tom Eckersely was elected Royal Designer to Industry in 1961.

Because of the age of these posters, there are areas of wear and tear, particularly on the edges. I have done my best to take photos where they are torn or stained. The good news is that when framed, the tears press up well against glass, and edges can be hidden by mats. Any wear picked up from years are part of the vintage charm.

When framed these colourful and detailed posters, with vibrant colours can become a centre piece for any room, to remind us of a simpler time.

These posters are sent as unframed. They will be delivered in a cardboard backed envelope for protection.
