This is a poster of the Beatles front man John Lennon by Birga in 1982, advertising the March for Peace. He stands playing a guitar in full song, his trademark dreadlocks spilling onto his shoulders. This poster is a moment at a critical time for peace which cumulated in the fall of the Berlin Wall.
The "Marche pour la Paix" or "March for Peace" was held in Montparnasse at the Place de la Bastille in Paris in June 1982. The march was attended by several hundred thousand people.

A large and pacifist crowd denounced the ongoing conflicts in Lebanon and Palestine, as well as the arms race reinitiated by the Reagan government with the risks of nuclear war. The emphasis was on the internationalism of the participants from all over the world, with banners calling for a united and disarmed world. The March for Peace and Disarmament was born out of "The Call of the Hundred", a collective of political and intellectual figures (Albert Jacquard, Claude Pieplu, Georges Séguy ...), who, in the context of the war cold, called for East / West negotiations and an end to the arms race.
Because of the age of these posters, there are areas of wear and tear, particularly on the edges. I have done my best to take photos where they are torn or stained. The good news is that when framed, the tears press up well against glass, and edges can be hidden by mats. Any wear picked up from years are part of the vintage charm.
