This is an outstanding and rare Guinness poster by Erte (Russian born French artist & designer Romain de Tirtoff) from 1974, showing an opulantly dressed mermaid forming the "G", with the rest of Guinness protrayed by colourful figures in a Greek Freize.
Dimensions: 17.7 in x 12.6 in (45 cm x 32 cm)
This has been printed on good quality paper and was probably part of historical marketing material from Guinness to promote the sale of calendars in the 1990s.
Erte was an artist and designer in an array of fields including fashion, jewellery, graphic arts, costume and set design for film, theatre, opera and interior decor. Between 1915 and 1937 he designed over 200 covers for Harpers Bazaar and his illustrations appeared in Cosmopolitan and Vogue.
Because of the age of these posters, there are areas of wear and tear, particularly on the edges. I have done my best to take photos where they are torn or stained. The good news is that when framed, the tears press up well against glass, and edges can be hidden by mats. Any wear picked up from years are part of the vintage charm.
When framed these colourful and detailed posters, with vibrant colours can become a centre piece for any room, to remind us of a simpler time.
These posters are sent as unframed. They will be delivered in a cardboard backed envelope for protection.
