Vintage 1999 Louis Vuitton Tradition Sailing Poster – Philip Plisson, Altaïr

This is a 1999 Louis Vuitton–branded maritime poster featuring Philip Plisson’s photograph Altaïr à la Nioulargue. Taken at La Nioulargue in Saint-Tropez—the world's most prestigious classic yacht regatta (now known as Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez). During this era, Louis Vuitton sponsored the classic yachting division (Louis Vuitton Tradition).
The photograph shows Altaïr, the celebrated schooner designed and built by William Fife & Son in 1930, sailing at La Nioulargue alongside another Fife yacht, Tuiga. Plisson’s own gallery confirms the identification and continues to offer the photograph in modern poster formats. La Nioulargue was the prestigious Saint-Tropez gathering of traditional and modern yachts that preceded today’s Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez. The understated black-and-white photography and “Louis Vuitton tradition” wording connect maritime heritage with Louis Vuitton’s long-standing travel and yachting identity.

Philip Plisson is a French photographer specialising in the sea, traditional sailing vessels, lighthouses and severe maritime weather. He established Éditions Pêcheur d’Images and was appointed Peintre de la Marine in 1991—an official French maritime-art distinction. 

Because of the age of these posters, there are areas of wear and tear, particularly on the edges. I have done my best to take photos where they are torn or stained. The good news is that when framed, the tears press up well against glass, and edges can be hidden by mats. Any wear picked up from years are part of the vintage charm.

These posters will be delivered in a cardboard tube for protection.
