Vintage German Jung Koch Quentell anatomical wall chart Fire Salamander and Crested Newts Feuersalamander Kammolch art retro 1950s Hagemann

Before tablets, projectors and even books, German school teachers used these posters to teach students, as you only needed one chart to teach a room.

These vintage wall charts are by Jung Koch and Quentell. They were published using lithographic printing onto linen from originally around 1900 depicting both flora and fauna, although this one is from the 1950s. You can tell this because the publisher Hagemann started to date them in the 1960s. They have signature black backgrounds designed by the teacher Heinrich Jung, biologist Dr Friedrich Quentell and painter Professor Gottlieb von Koch.

This is number 20 in the set, the north African fire Salamander in bold colours in the top panel, with its skeleton structure on the second, and a pair of crested newts in softer tones in the lower panel. Science appears on these wall charts as art, similar to Haeckel's "Art Forms of Nature"

The poster has beautiful colours and is still in good condition with just a few traces of wear on the top left. These colourful and detailed posters, with vibrant colours can become a centre piece for any room, to remind us of a simpler time.

These posters will be rolled up and delivered in a cardboard tube for protection. This item is over 90cm long, so is categorised as "oversized postage" which is expensive to send, so this has been built into the price.
